PUPILS at a first school are taking to the stage for a sell-out musical.

All the youngsters at Piddle Valley First School, near Dorchester, are involved in the production of Blue Crystal with children aged from four to nine years old performing.

The science fiction musical is set 2000 years in the future when the Earth is powered by a blue crystal which is stolen by the Zarcon warrior race from a distant planet who want it for themselves.

Assistant headteacher Catherine Rothman said: "The children are really excited about it and are so enjoying doing it. We try to do a whole school musical every summer and this is the first time we've done Blue Crystal. There's lots of singing and good costumes."

The performances ran from Monday until today but have been completely sold out.
