I've always lived in Weymouth, and remember not only being able to see the White Horse from most of the town but also it being a reasonable drawing of a man on a horse.

It's in such bad condition now that if it was a real horse I'm sure the council would have been reported to the RSPCA.

Should the legs of the horse get any thinner they'll soon disappear altogether.

I've looked online for an old photograph of the White Horse, and found an old postcard.

This was how I remember it looking when I was a child, and I was only born in the seventies.

I don't believe there's a cheap answer to restoring it to its former glory.

It's just a shame that it has been neglected to such a sad extent.

Who decided to stop what must in years past have been regular maintenance?

When it finally does disappear back into the hill it will be a loss to our town.

Mrs Gail Otton Weymouth.
