MULTI-million pound plans to make Dorset County Museum a 'world-class' contemporary exhibition space have now been formally submitted in a planning application.
The project, 'Tomorrow's Museum for Dorset', aims to create new gallery spaces, a learning centre and expand Dorset County Museum in Dorchester to enhance visitors experience and access to thousands of unseen items.
The total cost of the plans is £13.2 million, with £9.9 million coming from a fund grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
It's hoped the extension and transformation will be completed by 2020.
Director of the museum, Dr Jon Murden said: “We’re pleased to report that the planning application has now been submitted for the museum’s £13 million redevelopment project.
"We’re thrilled to be at this stage in the process, and we’re looking forward to creating a museum for Dorset to be proud of.
"It's transformative of the collections."
