INJURED paramedics raced a patient 100 yards on a trolley to hospital after their ambulance was involved in a collision.

Two paramedics and one other crew member pushed the patient to Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, following the crash in nearby Damers Road.

The ambulance had its siren sounding and blue lights flashing when it was in collision with the estate car.

Lead paramedic Dave Toman said: "At approximately 6pm yesterday, an ambulance travelling on blue lights and sirens was involved in a collision outside Dorset County Hospital.

"They were transporting a seriously ill patient.

"There were two paramedics and an emergency care support worker in the ambulance.

"All received minor injuries. The car driver was not injured. Despite the incident and their injuries, the paramedics took the decision to wheel the patient out of the back of the ambulance and quickly make their way to the Accident and Emergency department on foot."

He added that the patient was being taken to hospital following a serious domestic incident' in Dorchester at the time of the crash.

Ambulance crew received treatment for minor injuries after passing their patent to doctors.

The driver of the car was shocked but did not need treatment.

Police are investigating.
