DORSET is once again proving it’s the number one choice for a fantastic holiday.

The county has topped the 2017 Travellers’ Choice awards.

Bindon Bottom B&B in West Lulworth has been crowned the best B&B in the world in the 2017 Travellers’ Choice awards run by TripAdvisor, reclaiming the title it won back in 2014.

Bay View Hotel in Weymouth is also celebrating after going up from 11th place last year to fourth in the best bargain hotel category for 2017.

Named world number one, Bindon Bottom B&B is a Victorian country house built of Purbeck stone at the bottom of Bindon Hill in the pretty village of West Lulworth.

Lisa and Clive Orchard, owners of Bindon Bottom B&B, said: “We are genuinely appreciative to be recognised again in this year’s Travellers’ Choice Awards, and we want to sincerely thank all of our guests for reviewing us so kindly.

“We really do feel so grateful to be able to meet and accommodate guests from all over the world, who have come to Lulworth Cove to experience England’s spectacular World Heritage Listed Jurassic Coastline.”

They added: “Helping our guests to have the best possible experience of Dorset is of utmost importance to us, and so it’s genuinely heart-warming to be recognised by them for what we do.”

Testament to the great job that Lisa and Clive do, Bindon Bottom is the only B&B to have been named UK’s number one twice in the history of the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Five of the world’s top 10 B&Bs this year were in the UK.

Elsewhere in Dorset, Bay View Hotel in Weymouth has been named the fourth best bargain hotel in the UK in the awards, while Rousdon’s Dower House Hotel and Derby Manor Hotel in Bournemouth take 14th and 18th place in the UK small hotels category.

Run by Bernadette and Patrick Flynn, Bay View Hotel prides itself on keeping prices the same all year round and looking after guests.

On their secret to success Mrs Flynn said: “Because we have been here 21 years we get the same people always coming back. As we are 72, we should probably retire but it’s a nice and quiet hotel.

“We just cater for people from our own age group. People come back when you look after them and we don’t change the prices.

“It’s just about looking after people, treating them nicely and we are in a good position here.”

Hayley Coleman, a TripAdvisor spokesperson, said: “Unlike other hospitality awards, these are based on feedback from actual guests over the past year, which is what makes them so prized within the industry.”
