An 83-year-old man fell down the Cerne Abbas Giant hill on Monday night, which led to a 90-minute rescue in darkness.
Emergency services were called shortly before 6.15pm to reports a man had fallen in Cerne Abbas at the Cerne Abbas Giant hill.
Fire crews from Dorchester and Maiden Newton and technical rescue teams from Weymouth and Poole responded and spent about 90 minutes rescuing the man before returning to their stations.
A spokesman for Dorchester Fire Station said a man fell down the steep incline.
The technical rescue teams set up a rope recovery system to manoeuvre the casualty to safety.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire service used a basket stretcher to get the man to the roadside where an ambulance was waiting for casualty care.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said they were called before 5pm to reports of a person that had fallen.
The man suffered a back injury and possibly fractured his arm.
He was taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment.
