FUNDRAISERS are regularly trekking up mountains for charity – but what about the peaks of Dorset?

There's a chance to see the roof of the county in the Dorset 3 Peak Challenge supporting Diverse Abilities.

Participants are invited to take on the challenge of walking a marathon distance of 26.2 miles along the famous Wessex Ridgeway, taking in the three highest peaks in the county – Lewesdon Hill, Pilsdon Pen and Bulbarrow Hill.

The Dorset 3 Peak Challenge on Saturday, July 15, part of the charity’s Dorset Big Foot Trek Series, crosses some of the most breathtaking scenery in the county, with the 12-hour hike accumulating a combined height of more than 1,350ft – more than the ascent of Ben Nevis.

Led by skilled and highly experienced mountain leaders, the challenge will really test those who take part and will give participants a truly memorable experience of the great Dorset countryside and the scenery it has to offer.

Participants that sign up for the challenge will be supporting local disability charity Diverse Abilities, and funds raised as part of the challenge will be supporting children and adults with disabilities in the county to have a fulfilled life.

Ashley Weedon, fundraising manager, said: “Our challenge is not only perfect for those that enjoy walking or love spectacular views, but for those wishing to push boundaries and be taken out of their comfort zone.

"The challenge is open to individuals, groups of friends and family and it would also be a great team building experience for colleagues at corporate organisations.”

Sarah Harrison took part in a Diverse Abilities trek last year and said: “The Jurassic Coastal Trek was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. We walked nearly 60km over some of the most challenging parts of the South West Coastal Path, yet it was also one of the most rewarding and I’m so glad I did it."

As part of the Dorset 3 Peaks Challenge, breakfast and lunch is provided and there will be snack points along the route.

Registration for the event is £40 until April 1, and £50 thereafter. Minimum sponsorship is £295 per person. The charity is also offering local businesses that book a group of 10, one free place.
