NEARLY 600 LITRES of heating oil has been stolen from a residence in Bishops Caundle and Alweston.
The theft was discovered when the victim noticed their heating had stopped working.
On checking the tank, they discovered that between 500 and 600 litres of heating oil had been drawn out of the tank by thieves.
The crime occurred sometime between the last oil delivery in January and Monday 3rd April.
Police are urging residents to recheck security arrangements and consider fitting a heating oil tank alarm if they don't have one already.
The alarms continuously measure the oil tank level and help prevent fuel theft by sounding an alarm when there is a sudden drop in the oil level.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to contact Dorset Police via their ‘Do It Online’ portal at https://www.dorset.police.uk/do-it-online/, or telephone the non-emergency number 101 quoting incident number 03:0085.
