ONE group of trainee runners is celebrating after going from half a mile to a half marathon.

The team started out running around Weymouth’s Granby Industrial Estate but were determined to get better and better and recently took part in the Weymouth Half Marathon.

The Up and Running Ladies club, organised by Becky Masters from Pulse Fitness, started running last October. They started by running from the gym on the Granby to the Esso garage half a mile down the road, before progressing each week to run a little further.

The ladies only running group said they are a “warm and welcoming” group which caters for all ages and abilities.

The raced round the Weymouth half Marathon course supported by their friends and fellow running buddies.

Some of the ladies have got the running bug now and there are plans afoot for a few of them to take on Bournemouth Half Marathon in October or a sprint triathlon on Portland with local group Bustin Skins.

Miss Masters said she was incredibly proud of her running ladies and encouraged others to join them and experience the joy of running.

She said she had “no doubt” they would run the half marathon as they were all “strong ladies.”

She added: “I’m so proud of them.”

The beginners group runs on Mondays at 6pm and the improvers group runs on Thursdays at 7.30pm.

Mrs Masters gave advice to first-time runners looking to get into the sport, she said: “Don’t be nervous, like with anything, the hardest step is going along. We start off slowly and increase gradually each week. They are a lovely group.”
