CAN you see Weymouth and Portland on Pedro the dog’s back?

Owners Mark and Naomi Holloway certainly think so. And the couple they think their patterned pooch could give some of Dorset’s quirky claims to fame a run for their money.

Pedro is a six-year-old whippet cross collie and lives with Mark and Naomi in Sutton Poyntz.

The couple brought Pedro from a litter of eight in Littlemoor. Mark and Naomi said Pedro loves walking across the fields of Sutton Poyntz and Weymouth with his canine pals Skye and Brew.

The couple said they took the photo of Pedro while out walking and it shows the view, looking back towards Portland, like the depiction on Pedro’s back.

Mark said: “We live in the village of Sutton Poyntz around which there are some fantastic walks and views of Weymouth and Portland. I took the photo this week during a walk with our daughter Scarlett.

“I have often remarked that Pedro looks like he is carrying Portland on his back, but I guess you can see whatever you want if you really look for it.”

He joked: “Is it just me, or do the markings on my dog's back resemble an outline of Weymouth and Portland?

“I reckon this will put skull crisp and Jesus cloud in the shade.”

Back in April 2015 the Echo reported how Dorset resident Barry Selby had found a crisp that looked like a ‘spooky' skull while munching a packet of cheese and onion from Tesco.

He said: “"I thought it was worth keeping it as I don't think I will ever find one like it again.

"I sometimes give my dog, Max, crisps in a bowl, so it's lucky he didn't have this packet or I wouldn't have found it.

"Once I found a heart-shaped one as well in the 1990s.”

And earlier that year during the solar eclipse, Weymouth worker Michael Roberts took a picture, while seems to show Jesus’s face in the clouds above Weymouth. He said he had enjoyed the eclipse, but when he got the photos on his PC, a face seemed to appear, he said: “I got home and put the pictures on my laptop, and then I noticed this face-like image. I thought it looked like a girl’s face to start off with.

“I went into work the day after and showed my colleagues and some thought it looked like Jesus, some thought it looked like a girl, but they told me to send it into the Echo.”
