A SPECIAL monument is being lined up in memory of a hardworking Dorchester fundraiser who died earlier this year.

Dorchester Round Table has approached Dorchester Town Council for help in the siting of a small memorial dedicated to former club member Nicko Seaton.

Mr Seaton was diagnosed with a rare form of muscular dystrophy at the age of 16, and died last year at his Trinity Street home aged 36.

But he never let his disability get in the way of his energetic fundraising, collecting hundreds of pounds for good causes ranging from the Poppy Appeal to the Round Table.

Members of the town's Round Table now hope to erect a fundraising wishing well in his memory, which they hope will raise even more money for local good causes.

The club has written to Dorchester Town Council asking for help on the project, which members of the council's management committee will consider at a meeting tomorrow.

In a letter to be considered by the council, Julian Slade on behalf of the Round Table wrote: 'I think you are aware that a very popular member of our organisation, Nicko Seaton, recently passed away.

'Present members considered fitting ways of paying tribute not only to his passionate contribution to our charity but also to the town as a whole.

'The proposal we would like to adopt is to create a wishing well which will collect money for charity and carry a citation to Dorchester Round Table in remembrance of Nicko.' He said that a similar well had been built in the Lake District and asks the town council to consider supporting a similar project in the town with suggested sites of the Borough Gardens, Top o' Town or Frome Terrace down by the river.

"We intend it to be an attractive addition to the Dorchester landscape and a testament to the work that the Dorchester Round Table undertakes on behalf of the town each year."

Members of the committee will be asked to consider the proposal.
