IT will be a very special day for one crew member when a luxury cruise liner heads into Portland Port.

Kerry Eades, 33, is the Future Cruise Sales Manager onboard the Braemar Fred Olsen cruise ship.

Kerry grew up in Weymouth and her family still live here. After travelling all around the world with the cruise ship company, she said she is really looking forward to heading into her home port at Portland as part of their cruise.

The ship will be coming into port today at around 8am for the day.

Kerry grew up in Weymouth from the age of eight and attended Holy Trinity School, Budmouth College and then onto Weymouth College to study travel and tourism. She was also a sea cadet on Portland and then in Weymouth, which gave her a ‘love of the sea.’

She then went to Brighton to study for her degree. She said she loved her job travelling the world and having so many friends around the world, adding: “It’s one big family onboard.”

Kerry said: “As soon as we launched the 2017 brochure more than 18 months ago, in fact I was in Australia when Fred Olsen announced Braemar would be visiting Portland.

“It’s been a diary date I haven’t been able to forget and I’m just as excited about sailing home as I was when we sailed into Sydney Harbour.

“My family are coming to visit me, they’ve all sailed with me at some point before, so they’ll be coming to say hello to the other crew as well.”

The Braemar has a capacity of 929 guests, 485 cabins, 370 crew. It has a gross tonnage of 24,344 and is 195 meters in length.

After the stop at Portland, the ship will be heading back to Southampton then on to the Danish Waterways.

A typical day at sea involves planning sales events for the guests and informing them about the destinations the company visits, hosting events and cocktail parties, liaising with head office and travel agents around the world and looking after the loyalty programme. While a port day could involve experiencing the tours the company offer at the different ports so Kerry can tell guests about what is on offer. This could be anything from scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, hiking up to Machu Picchu or staying overnight in the Ice Hotel in Norway.

Kerry said it was very hard to pick her favourite place she had visited, adding: “I love an adventure cruise and the Amazon certainly was an adventure, I’ve been twice up the Amazon river which was absolutely incredible. I love Asia - Bali and Komodo Island were also highlights.”
