SCHOOLchildren's efforts to live healthily have been recognised by Dorset Primary Care Trust.

St John's School in Coombe Avenue, Weymouth, was presented with a healthy school award by trust representatives.

Headteacher John Horrell praised his pupils for the way they rose to the challenge of trying to live healthier lives.

He said: "The children have been taking part in the walk to school week, they have improved their diets and eat much more fruit.

"We used to have a problem with crisp packets flying out of bins but now we don't have that problem because none of the pupils are eating them any more."

Mr Horrell said his students have been undertaking more extra-curricular activities, including 'wake and shake' sessions in the mornings and during breaks.

These involve doing light exercise to help make the children more active and alert.

Mr Horrell added: "There are better levels of concentration among the pupils now."
