Engineering feats across Dorset have been nationally recognised for innovation and ingenuity.
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West has announced the winners of its prestigious civil engineering awards 2017.
Among the winners was the Wessex Water supply for projects over £1m, Project Wareham for projects under £1m, and the Hayward Main Bridge in north Dorset which won highly commended in its category.
Richard Fish, chairman of the judging panel, said: "We were delighted to celebrate the achievements of so many local projects at our awards ceremony.
"Collectively, the winning projects are a real showcase of the breadth and depth of civil engineering; they include a major new water supply grid, bridge restoration and maintenance, a new highway, highway maintenance, a rail line replacement, an historical lake restoration and even a nuclear research project."
The Wessex Water supply grid brings security to customers in Dorset, Somerset, and Wiltshire. The £230 million, eight-year integrated supply grid project in now almost complete.
The Project Wareham team of engineers restored and re-connected a heritage railway line to the mainline to the benefit of the local community while the Hayward Main Bridge project replaced the heavily corroded bridge deck with a modern steel construction.
Mr Fish added: "This is far from an exhaustive list of what civil engineering is all about, but it gives a very good idea of how much our profession impacts upon everybody’s quality of life."
