A DORCHESTER councillor who is calling for extra traffic control measures to be introduced to ease congestion at a busy junction has come up with a fresh solution to the problem.

Councillor Tim Harries, a taxi driver and Dorchester town and West Dorset district councillor, says it can take up to a quarter of an hour to drive down Trinity Street and on to the high street.

He had called for an existing yellow box on the junction to be extended to stop traffic travelling down High West Street blocking the road and stopping motorists turning right out of Trinity Street.

The proposal was all but ruled out by traffic experts at Dorset County Council, who said it would have very little effect on traffic flow.

Now Coun Harries has called for 'Keep Clear' to be written on the road to at least try to encourage motorists not to block the junction.

"I think this would be a simple solution. It seems to work elsewhere and I can't see why it wouldn't work here.

"If the junction is kept clear from traffic travelling down High West Street the drivers coming out of Trinity Street would have more of a chance to turn right.

"I have contacted the county council and hope that they will consider this suggestion," said Coun Harries.
