A photography exhibition exploring the world through the concept of time travel will be held in the county town.

The exhibition will showcase the work of Dorset Independent Photographers and will include pictures of landscapes, life and nature.

Visitors will be able to view pictures taken in Dorset and around the world, with some of the photographs taken in Iceland and the farthest reaches of Africa.

Ian Chapman of Dorset Independent Photographers said there will be ‘something for everyone’.

He said: “Visitors can expect a wide range of images and styles. There will be traditional dark room photography as well as digital photography and there will be modern wildlife and landscape photography. I think there is something for everyone.”

Mr Chapman also explained how the idea for the exhibition developed.

He said: “We started meeting up at each other’s homes to discuss our work and from there we decided to organise an exhibition.

“It also gives a focus to our work. It is very easy to take pictures and leave them in a book or a box, however making an exhibition is entirely different, it’s like having a conversation with people.”

The exhibition consists of pictures taken by eight artists, including Chris Hilton, Lisa Bukalders, John Tilsley, Paul Clarke, Malcolm Macnaughtan, Andy White, Tim Edwards and Ian Chapman.

The photographers are based locally with some living in Dorchester, Powerstock and Martinstown.

At least one of the photographers will be at the exhibition each day to answer questions and talk about their work.

The exhibition is free to attend and will be held at the Dorchester Borough Garden’s House from Monday, August 21 until Monday, August 28 and will be open from 10am to 5pm. Cards and books of the photographers’ work will also be on sale.
