HUNDREDS of households are being encouraged to host a table top sale to improve the facilities of one of Weymouth’s green spaces.

Friends of Lodmoor Country Park (FOLCP), a voluntary group which works to maintain the upkeep of the park, is hosting a community table top to raise money for improved facilities on the site.

The group is asking the 700 households which live within comfortable walking distance of the park to hold a sale of goods on their driveway.

The Sail Trail route includes those who live in the area bordered by Dorchester Road, down to Moorside Close, across from Monmouth Avenue and to Grove Avenue.

Organiser Susan Baillie said: "A similar project has been run in Dorchester, but with fewer roads, this is a first for Weymouth we think and we hope to make the day fun and profitable."

As buyers move from driveway to driveway sellers keep the profits from their goods and donate a £5 entrance fee to FOLCP.

The money will go towards improving park facilities including keeping the wildflower meadow blooming as well as repairing and replacing the green and children's gym equipment.

FOLCP will be selling a map for 50p listing all the locations of the table top stalls.

Home to the Sea Life Centre, Sandworld, Weymouth pitch and putt and the Rio Grande Railway, Lodmoor Country Park is one of the town’s biggest visitor attractions.

It is a firm favourite among residents holding the weekly Parkrun, newly started outdoor yoga sessions and a famed walking spot in the adjacent Lodmoor RSPB nature reserve.

FOLCP works in partnership with the parks section of the borough council to improve the country park for all to enjoy, making the park look more cared for and encouraging people to use the facilities on offer.

Sale organiser Vanessa Butler said: "The purpose of this sale is very much part of developing community relations as well as fundraising for the park amenities, it should be fun and a first for the area."

Sale takes place on Sunday, September 10 from 10am until 2.20pm.
