Rotarians will hold collections this weekend to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Irma.

The Melcombe Regis Rotary Club will hold a collection at Morrisons in Weymouth tomorrow and Sunday.

Weymouth Rotary Club will hold collections tomorrow in the town centre and at Goulds Garden Centre, Littlemoor Road.

The money raised from the collections will go towards Shelterbox, who have teams based in the Caribbean to help support families whose homes have been left devastated by the storm.

Melcombe Regis Rotary Club spokesman Bill White said: “These people have found themselves without anything at all, can you imagine not having a roof over your head?

“The community has been very supportive in the past. I think they know every penny will go towards the cause. This is a real emergency and it’s up to people to decide whether they want to donate.”

Local Rotary clubs have worked with Shelterbox in the past to help collect for the 2010 Haiti disaster and to support families whose homes were devastated by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

Mr White added: “I would like to express our thanks to Morrisons for co-operating with us and allowing us at such short notice.”
