A popular community fireworks display is set to be another sky-rocketing success.

Organisers of this year’s Southill Fireworks are promising the biggest and best event to date for Saturday, November 11.

The evening will take place at Southill shopping centre, Weymouth, from 6.30pm with all proceeds to be donated to Southill Primary School and its Christmas pantomime trip.

Weymouth Carnival royalty will be joining the festivities where there will also a host of games, prizes, a bar and a hog roast alongside the main event.

Organiser Jon Gabb said: "This year we’ve got some new fireworks that no one has seen before, and the finale is going to be a little bit bigger than it has in the previous 18 years.

"The display has gradually got bigger and bigger over the years, but the finale has probably been the same for the last ten years, so this year I have oomphed things up a bit.

"There’s going to be more than 100 shells in the air, so it should be a really good end to the show."

The evening’s entertainment will be provided by pianist Matt Black who will continue performing late into the night at the John Gregory Pub which is one of the event's biggest sponsors.

Various charities will be hosting stalls on the night including Weldmar Hospicecare, Clic Sargent and the Southill Wellbeing Centre.

There will also be a balloon man and a selection of fair ground rides to keep the youngsters entertained.

A long time in the organisation stage, Jon says things are starting to come together and now he's hoping the community will get behind him to keep the free event running.

He said: "When you organise an event like this, there are always lots of thing floating up in the air and as the event approaches it all sort of comes together.

"I want to say thank you to all our sponsors and everybody supporting the event in whatever way they are, lots and lots are people are responsible for making this happen."

Radipole Lane will be close Southill Community Centre to the John Gregory pub and the Southill car park will also be closed due to the event from 6pm until 9.30pm.

The event is supported by several businesses including Active Mobility, Refrigeration Specialists, Bridwey Precision Manufacturing and Weyline Taxis.
