The community of Weymouth came together recently to support an autumn concert in aid of the Royal Voluntary Service - despite Storm Brian's best efforts to dampen spirits.

The Encore Singers performed their Autumn Concert in aid of the service in Dorset at Weymouth Bay Methodist Church.

Despite Storm Brian, more than 50 people attended the concert, together with the Mayor and Mayoress of Weymouth and Portland, Cllr Kevin and Anne Brookes.

Refreshments were provided by Royal Voluntary Service staff and volunteers and there was also a raffle and craft sale.

More than £500 was raised on the evening to support the work of the Royal Voluntary Service in Dorset.

Maria Jacobson, Royal Voluntary Service Manager for Dorset Home Library Service, thanked everybody involved.

She said: “Our sincere thanks go to the Encore Singers and the musicians who made this evening so special.

"I would also like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress for attending, Weymouth Bay Methodist Church for letting us use their beautiful building, and all staff and volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service and the church who helped to make the evening go smoothly.

"Thank you to everybody who donated crafts, cakes or raffle prizes, too. Our thanks also go to the PRS who have let us have the public entertainment licence for free. Your support is much appreciated."
