A chippy has given a fund-raising group a boost after donating five pence from every portion of chips sold in one month.

The award-winning Fish 'n' Fritz gave Weymouth and Portland Friends of Julia’s House Children's Hospice Group a cheque for £300 after donating the money from each portion of chips sold during August.

The Weymouth town centre takeaway sold more than 5,500 portions during the summer months.

Fish 'n' Fritz raised the money by taking part in Julia’s House Chip Shop Challenge that saw chip shops from all over Dorset donating 5p from every portion of chips sold.

Paul Hay said: “This is the second year we have taken part in this great promotion with Julia’s House. This year was even better than last year, our customers really got behind the campaign and bought a lot of chips.”

Laura Kelly, community fundraising manager at Julia’s House, said: “Well done to staff and customers of Fish 'n' Fritz for once again taking up our Chip Shop Challenge.

"By donating 5p from every portion of chips sold in August they have raised a magnificent £300 in support of local families caring for life-limited children.

"This takes their total donated to Julia’s House to £568, thank you Fish 'n' Fritz.”

Brenda Bonwell B.E.M, former chairwoman of the Weymouth & Portland Friends of Julia’s House Children's Hospice Group, collected a cheque for £300 from staff at the shop.

Brenda Bonwell was a long-term chairwoman of Weymouth & Portland Friends Group and has raised half a million pounds for Julia's House over the last 10 years.
