ENTHUSIASTS should make tracks to Bovington Tank Museum to catch a glimpse of a film star.

Tiger 131, star of the Brad Pitt war movie Fury, will make one of two yearly outings in the attraction’s arena in April for the Tiger Day extravaganza.

The museum’s Tiger 131, a world-famous Second World War tank, is the only running Tiger I in the world.

Visitors to the museum on Saturday, April 28 will have a chance to see it in action in a 45 minute display along with its movie co-star, the Sherman tank ‘Fury’, among others.

Guests will also have the opportunity to explore ‘The Tiger Collection’, now in its final year, with its unique gathering of five members of the Tiger family – including the Elefant, on loan from America.

Tiger Day is held in April and September. Last year’s event in April, which attracted around 4,500 people, was the first where all tickets were sold out before the day itself, so people are being urged to book early.

As well as live action in the arena, visitors are treated to talks and tours on the subject of the Tiger and its Second World War contemporaries, as well as an opportunity to see rare objects from the museum archives relating to the capture of the German tank.

A museum spokesman said there were a host of exciting events lined up.

He said: “This occasion will also mark the 75th anniversary of the Tiger’s capture by British forces in the Second World War.

“With special Tiger-themed activities during the day, you can find out how the Tiger was captured, examine unique items and documents from the Archive, and discover more about Tiger 131’s formidable successor – the King Tiger.”

The museum will open from 8.30am to 6pm, with the arena display taking place at 1.30pm.

With more than 300 tanks from 26 nations, the Tank Museum holds the most historically significant collection of fighting armour in the world.

These range from the world’s first ever tank, Little Willie, through to the British Army’s current Main Battle Tank, Challenger 2.
