Commuters faced rail disruption today due to 'significantly damaged' track at Winchester.
Following damage to the electric third rail between Eastleigh and Basingstoke, all South Western Railway (SWR) lines were blocked.
Train services between Weymouth and Waterloo were being diverted via Havant.
Network Rail engineers worked for several hours to fix the issue.
All lines have now reopened, however SWR has warned that disruption is expected until around 4pm today (19), and services could be delayed, cancelled or revised.
Tickets were being accepted on Great Western Railway services between Basingstoke, Reading and London Paddington, and on Southern Rail services between Southampton Central and Havant.
Replacement road transport ran between Basingstoke and Winchester Eastleigh/Southampton Central.
Some services were also suspended on CrossCountry between Southampton Airport (Parkway) and Basingstoke.
