Four new police constables will be protecting our shores from an ever-increasing security threat.

Recently the four police support officers at Portland Port attended Weymouth Magistrates could to be attested to the office of constable.

The new police constables will continue to receive extensive training to support them in their new role.

Bill Reeves, the CEO of Portland Port said: ‘It was a proud day for the new constables and Portland Port. As our business continues to expand, the increased capabilities of Portland Port Police will bring additional security to the port’s tenants and users.”

Portland Port chief police officer, Inspector James Grant added: "We are pleased to welcome these new constables into the Portland Port Police force. With the increase of operations at Portland Port, especially cruise ships, the extra ability to protect our shores from the ever-increasing security threat will be improved by their presence on duty.

"The newly sworn officers, Pc Clarke, Pc Grant, Pc Sumby and Pc Chapman have a number of years of previous experience within the security industry between them and have all been employed with Portland Port Police and Security before undertaking this exciting new role."

Previously a naval dockyard for over 150 years, Portland Harbour is now a thriving and successful commercial facility.

It still maintains a close relationship with the past through its ongoing contract to support the RFA, as well as being home to the activities of Global Marine and Portland Bunkers UK. It has almost 2,500 hectares of water at depths of up to 15m and provides vessel services from long term lay-ups to brief maintenance calls, luxury cruise liner docking facilities to industrial cargo shipments.

It's been an exciting few months for Portland Port - as previously reported in January up to 60 new jobs will be created at the port in the next two years following a six-figure investment into a new facility.
