A safety charity is calling for people to give a few hours of their a week to improve safety in Weymouth.

SafeWise Weymouth operates a safety centre on Radipole Lane, next to Weymouth Fire Station, which provides safety education and skills for all ages and abilities. It caters to school groups as well as older visitors interested in learning about safety.

The centre includes a full-size outdoor road network, interactive fire safety scenarios and practical safety activities, along with a community cafe and other spaces and rooms.

Now the charity is calling for those who care about their community's safety to pledge a few hours a week to help run the centre. Volunteers would fulfill tasks including the day-to-running of the safety centre, welcoming visitors and helping to educate visitors to the centre through safety tours.

SafeWise centre manager Ben Heath said: “SafeWise Weymouth has exciting opportunities to volunteer and needs the help of the local community.

“Do you have a few spare hours each week and fancy making a difference? Would you like to meet new people and have some fun while helping your local community?

“If so, we want to hear from you. All you need is dedication, to be 18 years or over, enjoy being part of a team and have a good sense of humour. No experience is necessary as training is provided."

This month marks the second anniversary of the official opening of the charity's RoadWise outdoor driving, cycling and pedestrian safety facility by HRH The Princess Royal.
