One of Weymouth’s most iconic structures is being given a spruce up as it undergoes a full refurbishment.

The Jubilee Clock on the Esplanade is fenced off while work, including repairs, cleaning and painting, is carried out.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council (WPBC), which has commissioned the refurbishment, said it will include a thorough clean down of all painted surfaces, followed by a repaint in matching colours, repairs to the access door at the base of the clock, and a re-gilding of the roof and weather vane.

The clock dials will also be removed and refurbished or replaced with new dials as needed, and work is set to take place over several weeks.

Cllr Jeff Cant, Leader of WPBC and spokesman for for finance and assets, said: “Weymouth’s Jubilee Clock is one of the town’s most iconic landmarks.

"We’re currently carrying out a full refurbishment to ensure the clock remains in top condition for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

“We hope to have finished the works by June.”
