A SPECIAL service will be held at St Nicholas Church in Broadwey to mark the end of its recent shoe appeal.

The church has been collecting all sorts of shoes and clothing which will be donated to charity.

The service will take place on Sunday April 22 and will begin at 10.30am.

It will be a fun thanksgiving service, followed by tea and cake.

The shoes and clothing will be donated to children in Albania who for example work in rubbish tips and sometimes don’t have proper shoes.

The shoes will be distributed through Plataria Refugee and Destitute Child Support, a charity which works to help children living in poverty by delivering fresh food and supplies.

Judy Parson said: "They will be sent to Greece then distributed in Albania. We have had an amazing response, a lot of people have been dropping things from St Nicolas School, The Palm House, Rushton Dog Rescue and Julia's House, as well as other churches in the area.

"Next Sunday will be an informal service to thank everyone who has donated and to send the items on their way. There are hundreds of pairs of shoes and lots of children's underwear."

Judy said some people have also donated money, which will go towards covering the cost of sending the shoes and clothing abroad.

It is still not too late to donate shoes. If you are interested in getting involved email StNicksEvents@TheWeyToJesus.org.uk
