Weymouth residents are getting ready to commemorate US Memorial Day.

This year’s service will take place at the Weymouth American War Memorial on The Esplanade.

Many local veterans, association representatives and residents will be present to show their respect and remember US personnel who gave their lives during the Second World War.

The mayor’s chaplin - Rev Tom Coopey from St Mary’s Church in Weymouth - will carry out the service.

Meanwhile, The Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Cllr Gill Taylor will lead the service and lay a wreath on behalf of the borough at this important civic event.

Following the official wreath laying ceremony, association representatives and the general public will be invited to lay wreaths.

Cllr Gill Taylor, Mayor of Weymouth & Portland, said: “Weymouth, Portland and Dorset have a long and proud relationship with the United States of America and Allied Forces. This annual memorial event gives the borough and its residents an opportunity to pay its respects and reinforce the relationship with our American compatriots”.

The service will take place on Monday May 28 at 11am.
