BLANDFORD 46

DORCHESTER’S Championship bowlers swept to their first success of the season at home to Blandford, with a superb 63-46 (10-0) victory.

Dorchester team captain Ged Costello and his rink of Mike Lay, Peter Stevenson and Dave Glanville claimed five shots at the 15th end to give themselves a nine-shot margin which enabled the Dorchester quartet to claim a 23-15 win against G Ottley, M Jones, S Steele and skip P Lawrence.

The home side’s Kev Holbrook, Bill Ford, Gary Mumford and skip George Spracklen also had a tough encounter in their game against D Burge, C Lawrence, A Paulley and skip S Clayton as they led by just two shots at the final end. However, the county town crew held their nerve to score a triple which extended their lead to 21-16 at the finish.

The hosts’ Terry Cartwright with Jim Kelly, John Dyer and Les Selby had a similar encounter in their clash with Blandford’s C Walter, K Donaldson, P Cornick and skip P Hawkins, as the home team held a slender one-shot lead with three ends remaining but they kept their cool to close 19-15 winners.

There was more good news for the Championship players as they beat a strong Lyme Regis by three disciplines to two in the Top Club competition.

Dorchester’s George Spracklen got his team away with a superb 22-9 win the four wood singles, then veteran Glanville steered his quartet to a 27-12 success leaving duo Jim Kelly and Les Selby to win 30-9.
