Durdle Door has been ranked top of a list of the most ‘instagrammable’ places to have a picnic.

To celebrate National Picnic Week, drinks maker Fentimans has unveiled the results from its nationwide survey to reveal the UK’s top 10 destinations, in time for the summer holidays.

The survey of more than 2,000 people identified Durdle Door in Dorset, as the UK’s number one picnic destination followed by Buttermere in the Lake District (32%) and Tenby in Pembrokeshire.

For those unaware, Instagram is a social media app which lets users take and share pictures.

The top 10 list of most 'instagrammable' UK picnic spots can be seen in full below:

1. Durdle Door, Dorset (33%) – with it’s Jurassic rock formation and white sandy beach, it’s no surprise this picnic hot spot has won the title.

2. Buttermere, Lake District (32%) – mountain views and lake reflections beloved of poet William Wordworth make this spot one of the most romantic on the list.

3. Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales (31%) – the colourful houses and quaint fishing port make a vibrant instagram photo.

4. Porthchapel Beach, Cornwall (28%) – a south facing sheltered cove with white sandy beaches and Cornish sea air.

5. Penhale Sands, Perranporth, Cornwall (26%) - At low tide Perran Sands beach joins up with Perranporth Beach to create a beautiful three mile stretch of stunning golden sands.

6. Alexandra Park, Manchester (23%) - Designed in 1869 by Alexander Hennell this well landscaped park now has top class community facilities like tennis courts and a cricket pitch.

7. Kyoto Japanese Garden, Holland Park, London (23%) – a little piece of Japan in London, this garden was donated by the Chamber of Commerce of Kyoto in 1991.

8. St James’ Park, London (21%) – beautiful park with swans and a backdrop of the London eye and Buckingham Palace.

9. Strumble Head Lighthouse, Pembrokeshire, Wales (21%) - a picturesque light house with views over towards Dinas Head and Cardigan Bay.

10. Nantcol Waterfalls, Snowdonia National Park (20%) – stunning waterfall set amongst a beautiful valley backdrop.
