A MARINE punched and headbutted a doorman at a Portland pub after he was caught urinating in a sink.

Daniel John Harrison, 23, admitted two charges of assault.

Harrison, of Harbour View Road, Portland, was fined and ordered to pay compensation to two bouncers by district judge Roger House at Weymouth Magistrates' Court.

Prosecutor Jonathan Kingdon said Harrison was found urinating in a sink at the New Inn by bouncer Andrew Pegg in July and was asked to leave.

Magistrates heard that he said: "You're going to have to make me."

Mr Kingdon said Mr Pegg called his colleague Scott Wood to assist before the defendant lashed out and punched Mr Pegg in the eye.

Magistrates heard that Harrison was put in an arm lock by the men, who began escorting him off the premises.

Mr Kingdon said Harrison shook Mr Wood's hand at one point before turning to Mr Pegg and saying: "It's all your fault."

Magistrates heard Harrison then headbutted and punched Mr Pegg between the eyes.

Harrison continued to struggle as he was taken out of the pub, magistrates heard.

Mr Kingdon said both doormen had been assaulted but only Mr Pegg had sustained injuries to his eyes, leaving him with headaches and needing time off work.

In a police interview, Harrison said he need to 'sort out' his alcohol problem, Mr Kingdon said.

Simon Brimacombe, mitigating, said his client, a serving marine, had also suffered injuries during the incident.

Mr Brimacombe said: "But he can see the correlation between drink and what happened."

Magistrates heard Harrison has voluntarily stayed away from alcohol since the incident.

Marine Lieutenant Robert Kidd told magistrates a custodial sentence would terminate Harrison's career in the Royal Marines.

Lt Kidd said: "To lose one more man with his skills, that he's had to earn, would be of detriment to the regiment."

Lt Kidd added that Harrison was due to go training in Norway soon, before being deployed to Afghanistan.

Judge House told Harrison: "You will be doing - particularly this time - a very important job."

Judge House ordered Harrison to pay a total of £885 in fines and a £15 victim surcharge.

Harrison was also ordered to pay £250 compensation to Mr Pegg and £100 to Mr Scott plus £50 prosecution costs.
