A fault has meant some homes are experiencing 'low voltage' electricity.
Power firm SSE says up to 1,400 homes in the Sutton Poyntz and Osmington areas could be affected.
The problem was reported at just after 5.30pm today.
A team of engineers are on the way to investigate and are expected to arrive in the area by 7pm.
It is hoped the problem can be fixed by 9pm.
A SSE spokesman said: "It is not a power cut. We've had reports that some residents are experiencing low voltage.
"We don't know how many properties are affected but it could be up to 1,400.
"We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience and thank customers for their patience."
