Before everyone blames those who use their bus passes for the cuts to bus services remember we have a government who still think “austerity” is working despite the mounting evidence that it is bringing the country to it’s knees.

The bus routes are being reduced because of cuts to subsidies which are a direct result of cuts in funding to councils from Government.

This is also true for the number of ‘restructurings’ that are taking place in schools across the county.

Recent OFSTED reports have led to teachers being blamed for poor results. Morale in education is at an all time low as a result of the shameful lack of adequate central funding despite recent meagre vote inducing increases.

If local schools are failing it is because our politicians in government are failing them and thereby failing society. Austerity never was a necessity.

It has always been the political choice to break apart public services and open the door to privatisation and profit for the few at the expense of the many.

As we celebrate 70 years of the NHS which is already being privatised in a number of areas despite repeated denials from government, the electorate needs to wake up to the irreparable damage being caused to transport, education, health and social care, prison and probation services and many other areas.
