With reference to the letter from Carer of Weymouth (Echo Thursday, 12.7.18)

The lady may have to queue even more than she anticipates for use of Esplanade Toilet for the Disabled if the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council proposals for unisex loos come to fruition.

I have yet to find a woman who is comfortable with the idea of unisex loos. There are a number of reasons for this but just let me say that there are good reasons why male loos usually have urinals with just one or two sit-down toilets (I am assuming the council will be unable to fund attendants).

If some of the comments I have heard are anything to go by, able women will be queuing for the disabled loo. The irony of that, of course, is that such toilets are already unisex but they seem not to attract the same problems.

I have every sympathy for those who are trans and whom I assume the council is trying to cater for but making all the loos unisex is a step too far.
