There's lots of talk about housing needs and new builds in the county at the moment.

Although I see and understand the need for housing for the younger end, I'd like to point out that there's also a need for suitable housing for the older generation too.

I don't mean a one bedroom box of an apartment, no, we are a married couple, recently moved back into the area and unable to qualify for a mortgage, i.e. we're both over 65 years old, and we haven't £150,000 to put down as a deposit on a suitable property.

We look after an ageing parent; sometime in the near future we may have to have said parent move in with us (to save further strain on public resources), and we also have one of our grandchildren to stay a couple of nights during the week to enable our daughter and her partner to keep their jobs.

This means that we would certainly be looking at renting a three-bedroom property.

We are currently in a rented property and the rent is so high that we have little money left after bills have been paid that days out making memories with our grandchildren are few and far between.

If town planners could just remember my generation, the Betweeners, that is between ageing parents and children with children of their own, and come up with something suitable for us, at rents we can afford, that would be great.

Oh another thing... giving ALL Weymouth residents a chance to rent one of said properties would be even better.
