A car and a nearby road sign were left destroyed after a fire broke out in the early hours of this morning.

The incident took place at the A35 roundabout, Charmouth Bypass.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident at 2.17am.

Two fire crews, from Charmouth and Bridport, attended the scene.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “On arrival crews found one motor vehicle well alight which was extinguished using two hose reel jets. The vehicle was completely destroyed by fire and a nearby road sign was also affected.”

Dorset Police also attended as it was believed that the car was abandoned and set alight.
