While I sympathise with Julia (Have your say, Saturday, July 14) over her claims that reckless cyclists endanger her dog walking along the Ridgeway, not least as she has a disability, (I would suggest that the ‘Tour de Ridgeway wannabees show more consideration and courtesy) the point she raises about dog access to restricted areas of the beach is unrelated to cycling along the promenade.

The new cycling day time restrictions, as part of the PSPO (Public Space Protection Order) package, commence on Monday August 20th, as far as I know.

It was sensibly decided at a full council meeting at which I was present that the dates when restrictions for both dog access to the beach and promenade cycling should coincide, ie Good Friday - October 31st, so as to obviate confusion and excessive public notices.

The authorities should enforce these very reasonable restrictions consistently; however, the co-operation of both residents and visitors alike is essential in making them work for our benefit.

The cyclists who currently ignore the present restrictions seem to be from all age groups including certain ‘senior’ citizens who think the law only applies to others.

Not much of an example ?
