Here's what's on in Dorchester over the coming days and weeks.

OPEN EVENING

The Dorchester Detachment of the Army Cadet Force is holding an opening evening from 7.30pm until 8.30pm tomorrow (19)

It will be held at the centre on Poundbury Road.

Anyone interested in the force is invited to come along and meet the cadets and instructors.

CINEMA IN THE SUNSHINE

A free open-air cinema will be held at Maumbury Rings from 3pm onwards on Saturday (21).

The afternoon will start with a showing of The Lion King at 3pm followed by an interval, during which there will be some live music.

The second firm will be the singalong version of The Greatest Showman and will be show at 6pm.

People are encourage to come along from 2pm onwards and to bring a blanket or deckchair.

There will also be hot food, candy floss, popcorn, ice cream and coffee on sale.

The event has been organised by Dorchester Youth Extra and is sponsored by Dorchester Town Council, Magna House, Stepping into Nature and the Casterbridge Rotary Club.

RISING STARS

Two rising young percussions from the Birmingham Royal Conservatoire of Music are making a five-day tour of Dorset venues, from Lyme Regis across to Dorchester, with a lunch-time visit to Glastonbury.

Tzu-Jo Huang is from Miaoli in Taiwan and Alexander Henshaw from Dorchester.

They will be performing at Durnovaria Hall on Kings Road in Fordington from 7.30pm until 9pm on Tuesday, July 24.

LET'S GO MAD

Mad4Animals will be coming to Brewery Square from 12pm until 3pm on Saturday, July 28.

They will perform fun and educational shows all about animals and their habitats and there will also be hands-on sections as part of the interactive show.

WARM FESTIVAL

The Warm Festival will be returning to Dorchester’s Borough Gardens from 11am until 7.30pm on Sunday, July 29.

The event will be supporting The Steve Charles Help A Friend Fund, a charity which helps people in Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and west Dorset with financial difficulties resulting from medical problems.

There will be live music, food, drink, a bar and a raffle.

Organisers are also looking for bands and musicians to perform, as well as sponsors.

FOOD AND ARTS

The Dorset Food and Arts Festival will be returning to Queen Mother Square in Poundbury on Saturday, August 4.

The festival will start at 9am and continue all day.

GARDEN MUSIC

The Dalton Town Brass Band will be performing at the Borough Gardens on Sunday, August 5.

The event is free and the music will start at 2.30pm.

MUCH ADO

A PERFORMANCE of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing will be held at Maumbury Rings on Thursday, August 9 from 7pm.

It will be performed by The Rain or Shine Theatre Company.

Tickets range from £11 to £13 and can be bought from the Dorchester Tourist Information Centre.

ONE WORLD

The One World Festival will be returning to the Borough Gardens on Saturday, August 11.

It will run from 11am onwards and will be free.

The aim of the festival is to bring different cultures together through sport, food, music and dance.

Over the years it has been attended by thousands of Dorset residents, and sometimes people from further afield, who come together to appreciate and celebrate food, music, dance and arts from different cultures.

This year is the first year there is insufficient funds for the festival and therefore a crowdfunding page has been launched.

RUNNING DAY

The West Country Historic Omnibus and Transport Trust will be hosting its fourth Running Day in Dorchester on Sunday, August 12 from 10am until 4pm.

A number of buses, coaches and classic cars will be gathering at the Top o Town car park.

COMMUNITY LUNCH

A community lunch will be held at St Mary's Church on Edward Road on Sunday, August 12 from 12pm until 2pm.

There will be refreshments and entertainment.

RHYME TIME

A children's Rhyme Time event will be held in the Borough Gardens next month.

It will be held on Tuesday, August 14 from 10.30am until 11am.

Under eights must be accompanied by an adult.

VEGAN MARKET

Dorchester's Summer Vegan Market will be returning to the Corn Exchange on Saturday, August 18 from 9.30am until 2pm.

Entry is free and everyone is welcome to come along and browse the host of stalls that will be in the hall.

CIDER TIME

The ever-popular Dorchester Cider Festival will be held at the Borough Gardens on Saturday, August 18 from 3pm onwards.

The event is organised by the Dorchester Round Table and raises money for charities and organisations in the area.
