One Weymouth girl is set for a very special haircut - with the clippings to go to making wigs for other children who have lost their hair.

Four-year-old Kyra Chinnock will have most of her long hair snipped off, with the cuttings given to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children and young adults who have lost their hair as a result of chemotherapy or conditions like alopecia.

Krya's mother Stacy Chinnock told the Echo that when Kyra was was three years old, she saw a video on Facebook of a girl who was giving her hair to charity, and asked who the little girl was.

"I explained what she was doing, and since then she's wanted to do the same," Mrs Chinnock said.

She admitted that she had initially felt 'sad' at the prospect of Kyra losing her hair, and had tried to talk her out of it.

"I love playing with her hair, it's beautiful," Mrs Chinnock said. "I reminded her that she was like Rapunzel, who she loves. And she just said, 'Yes, but Rapunzel had her hair cut.'

"To be honest I'm proud of her. It's a brave thing for a little girl to do."

The big cut will take place on Friday, August 31, at My Kutz hairdressers in Chickerell, where Kyra lives with her mum and dad.

A Just Giving page has been set up for the event, with the Chinnocks hoping to raise at least £200, which will be donated to the Little Princess Trust along with Kyra's hair.
