I see the council are at it again in trying to flannel their way through the decision regarding the seafront lighting.

In the article in the Echo of August 3 it was reported that the person in charge of tourism, Councillor Richard Kosior inadvertently said in his statement, as ‘the lights would be’ which I think is probably the nearest statement of truth we have had.

The Echo has reported several attempts to measure public opinion as to the type of lights they would like and it appears that the vast majority always select the fairy lights

What we that live in Weymouth and Portland should realise is that we are the bottom of the pile for expenditure and of course we can’t have a Jurassic Coast road when Dorchester has a second bypass. Building such a road to bypass Wyke Regis would vastly improve the potential of Portland Port to receive more cruise vessels and of course it would also improve the living conditions of those affected and possibly lead to more jobs.

Is it any wonder that Weymouth and Portland are reported to have the worst employment rate in Dorset and a poor educational system to boot? Well done councillors as you sit in your new offices in Dorchester while our place burns down.
