As a member of the Liberals and Lib Dems for over 30 years I feel I must reply to the unwarranted, I believe, of his final comments by Brian Parkhurst about the Dorchester Town Council and in particular the Lib Dem Councillors, in a recent Echo letter.

He said in his final paragraph that we need a council that sticks to the needs of the residents of Dorchester, such as the Conservatives provide.

Where has he been these past 30 years? Why does he think that the Lib Dems have had so many councillors in Dorchester over this time?

Surely, it is because they have worked hard to try and improve the town and the wishes of the residents.

I have even spoken to a number of Conservatives who said they would vote for the Lib Dems locally, if not nationally, because of their achievements. He started his letter by criticising the Town Council for issuing a motion calling for Brexit to be reversed.

If this is true then of course he has a point, although I doubt if it required much heat and energy as he suggests.

However, the council having a large Lib Dem majority of councillors and being the only major party to really oppose Brexit, I assume but don’t actually know, that they wished to make the point regarding Brexit.

I do know that the party has had a large increase of members recently, particularly because of the Brexit issue, and wish for their opinions on the issue to be known.

I cannot remember an issue that has raised so much heat, energy and anger from so many people and organisations.

Brian Parkhurst says the Lib Dems are flying in the face of the will of the people, I suggest that that they are flying the flag for so many disgruntled people at the moment.

Finally, regarding the Conservatives sticking to the needs of the Dorchester residents.

They didn’t regarding the new WDDC offices where the residents overwhelmingly voted against, in a referendum.
