THESE are the 55 people convicted of drink drive-related offences in a summer crackdown.

The 'naming and shaming' of those convicted is something that is promoted by Dorset Police in a bid to get the message out that drink driving will not be tolerated.

The force announced when it began its six-week campaign in June that anyone charged with a drink driving-related offence would have their name and photograph published.

In total, 64 people were charged. To date, 55 people have been convicted – 36 were men and 19 were women, with the average age being 34.

Although 55 people have been convicted (names listed below), only the images of 52 of them have been released by the force.

Dorset Echo:

A total of 652 breath tests were carried out by officers during the summer campaign, which ran between June 1 and July 16.

Officers breathalysed all drivers involved in collisions, those stopped while committing a moving road traffic offence and anyone suspected of driving under the influence.

PC Heidi Moxam, of the Alliance Roads Policing Unit, said: “I am disappointed that there are still motorists who clearly think they are above the law and are willing to risk getting behind the wheel after having a drink.

“Four people died on our roads last year as a direct result of drink drivers. That’s four unnecessary deaths. Four times when we had to tell relatives a loved one would never be coming home.

“Too many people fail to consider the devastation that drink driving can cause. Alcohol impairs many of the functions necessary for safe driving – slowing reactions and significantly reducing spatial awareness. Drink driving poses a significant threat to other road users and we aim to send out the message that these offences will simply not be tolerated. Having a second drink doubles the risk of a driver being involved in a fatal collision.

“Dorset Police utilised targeted social media and billboard messaging to promote anti drink drive messages this year and we will continue to educate drivers about the consequences of their actions.”

Dorset Echo:

Inspector Joe Pardey, of the Alliance Roads Policing Unit, said: “This campaign saw officers targeting suspected drink drivers following information provided to the force by the public and I’d like to thank those who phoned in with information.

“If someone is caught drink driving, they will face a minimum 12-month driving ban, a criminal record, up to six months in prison and a fine. They risk being involved in a collision, which could result in serious or even fatal injuries, putting innocent lives at risk.

“I urge anyone who suspects someone is driving under the influence to call 999 immediately so police can intercept or call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 with non-urgent information.”

Drivers in court - reports by Sam Beamish

A MAN who crashed his car while intoxicated has been banned from driving for almost two years.

Oliver Cyzer, aged 45, from Ryme Intrinseca, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Weymouth Magistrates Court.

Cyzer crashed his car, pictured below, in a single road traffic collision at Back Lane in Bradford Abbas on Thursday, July 12.

Dorset Echo:

The court heard Cyzer was coming back from Yeovil having watched the World Cup Semi Final.

Following the crash, he called 999, and spoke with police who asked him whether he had been drinking alcohol.

He replied he had drunk 'quite a bit'.

Police quickly arrived on the scene and Cyzer was given a breath test, which revealed he was above the legal limit with 80 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Karen O’Brien, mitigating, said Cyzer is a man of good character with no previous convictions, and that he pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

She said he accepts that the incident is a result of a 'total misjudgement'.

She explained he is extremely ashamed of his actions and that if somebody was coming along the road at the time it could have been ‘another story.’

During the hearing, magistrates were shown an image of Cyzer’s smashed-up Citroen C1 in the road.

Chairman of the bench, Sara Saunders, said: “We have seen the photos, it looks like quite a nasty accident and it’s lucky nobody was coming along the road.

“We are going to disqualify you from driving for 20 months. If you drive when disqualified, you will commit a serious offence.”

As well as being banned from driving, Cyzer had to pay a total of £235, including a fine of £120, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.

A MAN who was refused entry to a nightclub for being too drunk then drove his car has been banned from driving for a year.

Kayne Joy, aged 21, of Plover Walk in Weymouth, appeared at magistrates’ court and pleaded guilty to drink driving.

The incident took place on Saturday, July 14..

Lee Turner, prosecuting, said Joy had been refused entry into a nightclub in Weymouth for being too drunk.

He told the court: “He was refused entry due to drunkenness and staff saw him walk towards a car, a Ford Mondeo, so they alerted the police.”

Officers then saw the vehicle coming down Rodwell Road towards Boot Hill and noticed Joy driving with a front seat passenger.

They stopped the car and Joy took part in a road side breath test, which revealed he was over the legal limit with 46 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Joy, who was unrepresented in court, explained that he has lost his job as a result of the offence.

Chairman of the Bench, Sara Saunders, said: “It is a bit worrying that you had a passenger in the car whilst above the limit, someone may have been injured.

“We will disqualify you from driving for 12 months. If you drive while disqualified, you commit a serious offence.”

Joy was also forced to pay £150, including a £120 fine and a victim surcharge of £30.

A WOMAN has been banned from driving and fined after crashing a car whilst intoxicated.

Rhianna Fadden, 28, of Clevedon, Somerset, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The incident took place on Saturday, July 14 on Ranelagh Road in Weymouth.

Magistrates heard how Fadden had been visiting the town for the seafood festival, when she got into an altercation with her boyfriend, who then left.

She had been drinking at the time, when she got into a Vauxhall Vivaro at around 10.15pm.

Prosecutor Lee Turner, told how Fadden started the vehicle which moved forward damaging the vehicle parked in front, pictured below.

Dorset Echo:

Mr Turner said witnesses called the police, who asked Fadden to complete a roadside breath test.

This revealed she was above the legal limit with 88 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Karen O’Brien, mitigating, said Fadden was a woman of good character with no previous convictions who pleaded guilty at the first instance.

She explained that her client, who had never driven a car with gears before, turned the key too far in the ignition. As a result, the car jolted forward into the car parked in front.

She said her client had no intention to drive the vehicle.

Fadden wasn't insured to drive the car and only holds a provisional licence.

Chairman of the bench, Sara Saunders, said: “It’s quite unfortunate isn’t it but you have pleaded guilty to driving when above the limit, with quite a high reading. We will disqualify you from driving for 17 months.”

Fadden was also ordered to pay £527, including a fine of £402, a victim surcharge of £40 and court costs of £85.

A FARMER has been banned from driving and fined after being caught drink driving in the early hours.

Lee Craddock, aged 23, of Kington Magna, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Craddock was stopped by police in the early hours on Sunday, July 15.

He had been at a beer festival before giving his friend a lift home.

Officers spotted him driving an Audi TT and were concerned that the car was speeding so set off in pursuit.

They caught up with Craddock as he pulled over in Sturminster Newton to drop his friend off.

Officers asked if he had been drinking and he replied saying ‘only a couple.’

He was then told to complete a road side breath test, which revealed he was over the legal limit with 48 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Speaking at the hearing, Craddock explained how he thought he was fine, having only consumed a couple of beers at the beer festival.

He added: “I’d like to apologise, I’m very sorry.”

Prosecutor Lee Turner told how Craddock was a man of previous good character with no convictions prior to the incident.

Craddock, who was unrepresented, says he will most likely lose his job as a farmer as a result of his offence.

Magistrates decided that he should be punished by paying a total of £365, including a fine of £250, court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.

Chairman of the bench, Sara Saunders, added: “You are disqualified for 12 months. If you drive whilst disqualified, you will commit a serious offence and may be taken into custody.”
