BUTTON WORKSHOP

A beginners Dorset button workshop will be held at the Dorset Centre for the Creative Arts on Middle Farm Way in Poundbury on Tuesday, September 11.

People attending the workshop will be provided with all the materials necessary to begin creating tradition Dorset Cross Wheel buttons and also learn how to introduce colour changes to their work.

POPULAR PERFORMERS

The Durnovaria Silver Band will be making a double appearance in the Borough Gardens next month.

The band will be performing on both Sunday, September 9 and Sunday, September 23, both from 2.30pm.

SOLDIERS' HOMECOMING

A free community event will be held to commemorate soldiers' homecoming after the First World War.

It will include a combination of activities including music, performances, singing, displays, artefacts on show, talks and children's crafts and games.

The event - Keep the Home Fires Burning - will be held at the Corn Exchange on Wednesday, November 7 from 10.30am until 4.30pm.

MUSEUM'S SCHEDULE

A host of events will be taking place at Shire Hall this September.

People will be able to learn how to be a community reporter in 30 minutes.

The free sessions will be held on Saturday, September 8 and Saturday, September 15 from 10am until 4pm.

From Thursday, September 6 until Thursday, September 16 there will be free guided tours to show people behind the scenes of the historic courthouse.

An acclaimed exhibition exploring the nature of forgiveness through the stories and pictures of victims and perpetrators from across the world will be held from Friday, September 14 until Friday, September 21 at St Peter’s Church in partnership with Shire Hall.

A heritage open day will be held on Sunday, September 16 from 10am until 4pm at Shire Hall.

A multi-faith panel discussion will be held at St Peter’s Church, in partnership with Shire Hall, on Saturday, September 17 from 7.30pm.

And finally, a Justice Café by the Local Crime Community Sentence Group will be held on September 20 at 1.30pm at Shire Hall.

THEATRE CONFERENCE

The National Community Theatre Conference and Evening Social will be held at the Corn Exchange next month.

The event will be supporting Dorchester Arts and will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 11.45am.

It will be led by Stephanie Dale, playwright for the seventh Dorchester Community Play, Spinning the Moon, and will be celebrating and challenging the craft and legacy of Ann Jellicoe.

Key speakers for the event will be David Edgar, one of the UK's leading political playwrights, and Jon Oram, artistic director of Claque Theatre.

BARN DANCE

A barn dance has been organised to support the Friends of Dorset County Hospital and the work they do.

The dance will also see the return of Ceilidh band Black Sheep.

It will be held at the Corn Exchange from 7.30pm on Friday, August 25.

Tickets will also include a ploughman's supper.

FASHION SHOW

A vintage fashion show will be coming to Dorchester in August to help raise funds for a vital trust.

The show will be held at Duke’s Auctioneers in Brewery Square.

There will a host of vintage accessories and clothes on show.

There will be cream teas provided by Yalbury and Yvons Café from 4pm and 5.30pm with free entry.

The ticketed fashion show will start at 6pm with a reception and canapes, followed by the show at 7.30pm.

The event will be held on Thursday, August 30 and will be raising funds for The Alcohol Education Trust.

GIN FEST

A Gin Festival will be coming to the Corn Exchange from 7pm until 11pm on Saturday, September 1.

There will be a chance to taste a variety of gins.

DEMENTIA SUPPORT

A Dementia Support Group meeting will be held at Rowan Cottage.

The group was launched by Age UK Dorchester and is open to anyone who has been affected by dementia, whether they themselves have it, or if they support someone else who does.

The group will be from 10.30am until 12pm on Monday, September 9.

It is also an opportunity to meet others in a similar situation and a chance to talk about issues that may be affecting you or those around you.

The group will be very informal and led by those who attend.

Tea and coffee will also be available.
