Maumbury Rings came alive with music with the return of Anonymous Festival.

The event, which is now in its tenth year, boasted an exciting line-up of performers, including bands, dancers and actors.

The festival is organised by Dorchester Youth Extra (DYE), the town's youth forum, and is supported by Dorchester Town Council.

Flo Penfold, aged 17 from Dorchester, helped organise the festival on Saturday as part of DYE. She said: “I have been helping to organise the event for the last four years. It’s really good fun and it’s nice to do something for the community.”

Flo, who has performed at Anonymous Festival in the past, said: “It’s great to have the opportunity to perform, so many people who come to watch ask us what they can do to play here next year.”

Emma Scott, community development officer at Dorchester Town Council, helped co-ordinate DYE.

She said: “It’s great to see the sun out on our tenth anniversary of this youth orientated event, put on by young people. We aim to showcase the best young bands in Dorset.

“It’s really difficult for bands in the area to get the opportunity to perform their own music, but here they have a professional set up at an amazing location.”

She added: “It’s a great event to have at the end of the summer holidays and starts off a weekend of events very well.”

Mayor of Dorchester Town Council, Cllr David Taylor, attended this year’s event, and said: “It gives young people the chance to promote themselves in a safe environment and for people to come and enjoy and toast their success.”

Among those performing throughout the day, was the Natural Theatre Company, who are based in Bath.

Pavel Douglas, an actor who has starred in EastEnders and the James Bond film Goldeneye, performed as part of the theatre troupe.

He said: “This is the first time the company has performed here, and we are really looking forward to it. It’s such a sweet little place.”

Visitors flocked to the event to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the music.

The sun was high in the sky as visitors took part in activities and listened to music.

Gemma and Jack Richardson said they had a fantastic time.

Gemma said: “We saw a poster for the event and were very curious, it’s got a great name.

"It was a pleasant surprise that it’s all free. We’re looking forward to the bands and playing some of the children’s games.”

Craig Coles and Kay Coulson from Dorchester said it was a great day out.

Kay said: “We come every year. It’s a free family day out, you can’t beat it when it’s sunny.”

Sarah Cater from Weymouth said: “We came a few years ago and had such a great time that we’re back again. It’s a fantastic festival with lots to do for the little ones.”

This year a number of bands took to the main stage, including Pop Club, Hyper Vypers, Pizza for Days, Distinction Dance, Beckerleg, Bana High, the Salt, Decimal 5 and Frazer Mitchell and Kate Stapley.
