A YOUNG girl from Dorchester had her hair cut to raise money for charity.

Abbie Peach, aged 10, has been trying to raise as much money as possible for Weldmar, who cared for family friend, Christine Balderson, before her death.

Abbie decided to pay tribute to Christine by having her hair cut on Saturday which marked the second anniversary of her death.

Dorchester Hair Studio offered to cut her hair for free and also made a generous donation to the charity, along with the Mayor of Dorchester Town Council Cllr David Taylor, who showed his support.

Abbie had an impressive 40cm of hair chopped off by hairdresser Becky Hewitt.

Cllr David Taylor said: “What a wonderful achievement and a great moment for this young lady. She’s cut 40cm of her, which is an incredible length to lose, but still looks absolutely fabulous with her new haircut.”

Abbie’s mum, Helen Peach said she was extremely proud of her daughter.

She added: “It’s something she has wanted to do for a long time.

“It’s all come from her and from the heart. She understands what Weldmar does and the care Christine received at her home.”

She said her daughter is hoping to raise more than £1,000 as part of her fundraiser, and has been checking her Just Giving page daily.

Tanya Reed Balderson, daughter of Christine Balderson, attended the event to support Abbie.

She said: “Two years today mum passed away. Abbie and her family would come over for the evening to see mum and did arts and crafts, they spent a lot of time with her.

“It’s beautiful that Abbie’s done this and picking the anniversary of mum’s death really means something. She would have been ecstatic with her.”

She praised Weldmar and added: “They’re wonderful, the service she received while she was there was fantastic. I can’t fault it. We are so lucky to have it in our area.”

Abbie’s chopped hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes real wigs for children who have lost their hair after suffering from cancer.
