We've been enjoying a trip down TV memory lane and we once again venture down this path in this week's edition of Remember When.

Some of you might remember the short-lived BBC police series Rockliffe’s Folly.

It was filmed in 1988 in Weymouth, Dorchester and Bridport and stared Ian Hogg as a fed-up Scotland Yard detective who moved to the provinces for a change of pace. His character transferred to the Wessex Police Force, finding the country has plenty of crime problems of its own!

Weymouth portrayed the central setting of 'Maidenport' and the police station seen was Dorchester’s. The series used Bridport for town scenes, along with the surrounding countryside.

You will recognise Dorchester's South Street, where Ian is seen strolling along, notebook in hand. Weymouth seafront is also a familiar location, where real life police officers had to be deployed to help with crowd control.

A more memorable television series filmed in this area in the 1980s was the BBC's Tenko. Here, we have a picture of Burt Kwouk, best known for his role as Cato in the Pink Panther series, in costume as camp commandment of a Japanese prison camp. The 'camp' was built near the village of Moreton.

We also bring you a picture of filming of a BBC political show in Halstock Village Shop and the filming of the BBC's 999, which many of you will remember from the 1990s.

And last but not least, two actors who went on to become huge stars - Max Beesley and twice Oscar-nominated Samantha Morton filming literary classic Tom Jones at Mapperton House near Beaminster.
