A search of the coastline was launched after a despondent woman was reported on Portland.
Coastguard teams from Wyke and Portland Bill were called at 7am yesterday morning to assist Dorset Police in the search for a despondent woman in in the Quiddles Cafe area of Chiswell.
Once on scene the crews began a search of the immediate area.
A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard said the team heard a female's voice and they found two people in the boulder field below Priory Corner.
The coastguard helicopter arrived on the scene and stood off in Lyme Bay whilst a rope system was put in place to allow access to the casualty.
The spokesman said: "Our intentions were to assist them to the top but after a lengthy discussion with the casualty a decision was made to escort them back down to awaiting team members, paramedics and police."
A cliff man was lowered to assist them down through the rocks to safety.
