Weldmar’s annual Summer Fete is back – and organisers say it is going to be bigger than ever before.

Returning for its 23rd year, the popular event will return to the grounds of Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester this Saturday.

The event attracts thousands of visitors and raises around £25,000 for Weldmar Hospicecare.

Clair Walker, Weldmar’s major events fundraiser said: “This is one of our flagship and most popular events and we are pleased to have our sponsors Mercedes-Benz of Dorchester on board this year which will be attending the event with four of their vehicles. The fete is a great family day out and visitors can be assured that that the money they spend is making a massive difference to people right here in our community.”

Keep your eyes peeled for a familiar face as Martin Clunes will once again be joining Weldmar at the fete. He will spend the day thanking volunteers, meeting fans and visiting patients at the hospice.

Clair added: “Martin and his wife Philippa are fantastic supporters of our cause and we are delighted that they are able to join us again this year. They take time out of their busy schedules to not just meet fans but also spend time with our patients, which makes such as difference.”

There will be more than 45 stalls and attractions on offer including crockery smashing, coconut shy, TV game shows and tombolas to keep both children and adults entertained. The entertainment green will feature local talent as well as classic cars, gold wing motorbikes, steam engines, plus a bird of prey display from Xtreme Falconry and exotic animals courtesy of world-life.co.uk

If you get peckish food and drink will be served up to keep you fuelled throughout the day including cream teas, a BBQ, curry, ice creams and even a licensed bar.

Weldmar’s popular Silent Auction will have more than 60 lots up for grabs in which this year includes a walk on part in Doc Martin and test driving a Mercedes-Benz.

There will be a free park and ride facility from Dorchester Town Football Club with strictly no parking on site at the hospice or on parts of Herringston Road.

The fete runs from 11am until 4pm. Entry costs £2 per adult and under 14s go free.
