BRILLIANT news: It’s now apparent that the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has been working for the last nine months with key Weymouth and Portland Borough councillors to prepare a ‘Statement of Intent’ which will set out to the Government and Highways England the potential economic opportunities and funding requirements for the Jurassic Coast Highway (Echo report, August 16 – Western route is back on agenda).

No wonder business leaders were ‘shocked and dismayed’ that the highway had failed to be included in the latest Local Plan by just one vote.

As of now, W&PBC has no official budget to do any work on the highway during the next four years.

Just think. If the borough council had applied themselves to the highway in the same dedicated way (with the same amount of time and effort) as Dorchester councillors have for their new northern bypass, we could have had the highway up and running within the next two or three years.

Well done W&PBC. You’ve done your voting tax payers a great dis-service.
