The heat is being turned up as free cookery workshops and demonstrations come to west Dorset.

Thanks to funding of more than £8,000 from West Dorset District Council, The Post Code Lottery and Dorset Community Foundation, the Friendly Food Club is going on the road with its cookery sessions.

It launches this Friday in the village hall at Maiden Newton from 10.30am ending with lunch at 1pm.

Based on healthy, affordable recipes using locally sourced ingredients, the workshops are perfect if you want to brush up your cooking skills, learn more about 'the healthy Mediterranean diet' or just want a free lunch and a chat.

Workshops will continue throughout September and October, wherever there are enough people interested.

The team will also be in the Borough Gardens in Dorchester this Saturday.

Whilst booking is not always necessary, members say it does help to make sure there is enough food to go around at the sessions.
